मंगळसूत्र - Polki Flower Mangalsutra

मंगळसूत्र हा महाराष्ट्र आणि कर्नाटक या प्रदेशांतील सुवासिनींचा सौभाग्य अलंकार समजला जातो. अगदी साधे मंगळसूत्र म्हणजे दोऱ्यात ओवलेली काचेच्या काळ्या मण्यांची दोन पदरी माळ होय. माळेच्या मध्यभागी बहुधा सोन्याचे चार गोल मणी व सोन्याच्या दोन लहान वाट्या बसविलेल्या असतात. काही अलंकार केवळ सुवासिनीनीच वापराचे असतात. त्यांना सौभाग्याअलंकार असे म्हणतात. यात मंगळसूत्र हा अलंकार महाराष्ट्र, कर्नाटक, तमिळनाडू, आंध्र प्रदेश, तसेच केरळ व उत्तर भारत या प्रदेशांत प्रचारात आहे.  ग्रामीण भागात याला गाठले, डोरले, गुंठण किंवा गंठण असेही म्हणतात, जे त्याच्या विविधतेला अधोरेखित करते.

मंगळसूत्र केवळ दागिना नसून, तो सुवासिनींच्या सौभाग्याचे आणि सांस्कृतिक परंपरेचे प्रतीक आहे.
